Foster City, CA — October 16, 2006 — Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that eHarmony will expand the company’s operations at Equinix with a new Web site operations deployment at Equinix’s Washington, D.C. area Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) center. The move comes after eHarmony has successfully deployed production operations for the company’s Web operations at Equinix’s Los Angeles area IBX center.
With more than 13 million users, eHarmony is one of the leading Internet relationship services. eHarmony holds the only industry patent for its unique Compatibility Matching SystemTM, which brings singles together using a scientifically-proven set of compatibility principles. Integral to the Compatibility Matching System is a reliable Web infrastructure that ensures the highest levels of performance, speed and uptime for eHarmony users.
Equinix offers eHarmony a high performance infrastructure to facilitate the fastest and most reliable experience for customers accessing the eHarmony site. To facilitate this, Equinix centers provide immediate and direct access to every major global carrier, ISP and network service provider, enabling eHarmony to directly link with these networks serving eHarmony’s customers within the same physical location, rather than connecting to them in multiple, disparate locations and over long distances. This streamlined connectivity provides the most direct path between e-Harmony’s content and end-users.
In addition to network connectivity benefits, Equinix’s centers also provide eHarmony with a secure and redundant physical infrastructure with a strong track record of uptime. Power operations at each center include a high-performance backup system that ensures uninterrupted power even in the event of utility power disruption. Security features include interlocking "mantrap" doors, multiple layers of biometric hand-geometry scanners controlling access, as well as 24-hour security officers and hundreds of surveillance cameras.
“Our Web operations serve as a critical link between eHarmony and our customers and we have the highest standards for site performance, reliability and speed,” said Mark Douglas, vice president of technology at eHarmony. “Our deployments at Equinix enable us to more efficiently link to the networks that serve our end-users, providing enhanced redundancy while reducing networking costs by leveraging the efficiencies of operating within the same center as our strategic partners.”
“The combination of Equinix’s high-performance data centers and our ability to offer direct access to a critical mass of networks, enterprises and content companies provides a strong alternative to the traditional method by which these companies have linked to each other on their own,” said Margie Backaus, chief business officer of Equinix. “By outsourcing with Equinix, companies, such as eHarmony, can implement a highly-advanced network interconnection infrastructure without the time, expense and expertise requirements of managing it internally, enabling them to focus on their core business.”
